Avon Utah

While driving through Avon, UT.  I found this red house sitting by the river and thought it would be the perfect photo to take for my first portfolio entry.

There wasn't much I wanted to change but the grass I've made a little greener, atmosphere a bit lighter and altogether a little crisper.

  • I used Adobe Bridge to change the vibrancy and clarity of the photo.

  • Then used a bit of detail and noise reduction to tie it all together.

Kyle's Eye

For my second portfolio entry, I decided to use my brother's eye as the centre of my piece.

  • I first edited the photo in Camera Raw to crispen and depth the colours that show in the iris.

  • Second, we went into Photoshop and adjusted the image to black and white.

  • His iris is then made back into the original colours to make them pop and draw your eyes to his eyes.

Gear Up!

We were given the opportunity to make a poster for Gear Up.  I decided to do something simple with a few lines of text to encourage people.

Breath of Colour

Fall is my favourite time of the year, and I wanted to capture all the fantastic colours that come with the season.

  • First I took the photo near 2nd Damn in Utah.

  • Bringing it up in Camera Raw to crispen the clouds, and make the colours on the mountains pop.

UCET

I decided to do the outline of a person and show how human beings are many different things including smart and determined to powerful and unique.

Pet Sitting

For my business card project, I wanted to do something that I could use.  I decided on making my card for my Pet Sitting business since I've never had a business card and this would make things more professional and more complete.

  • I went for a vertical piece because; to me, it's more eye-popping and a little more unique.

  • We were shown how to make gold and other metals which I thought was exciting and wanted to incorporate that into my card.

  •  The back is simple and gets the point across as well as a clean front.

Two birds with one stone

I wanted to do something a little different.  I have an art class where I end up taking a photo for and drawing that so I am able to draw from the comfort of my own home.  Since it is almost Halloween, it was our choice for our portfolio, and I have to draw myself in a Halloween costume, I felt it was best to "kill two birds with one stone."

  • I first darkened the shadows and lighten myself a tad just to enhance the effect in Camera Raw.

  • I then took the photo into photoshop and cropped out the background so the focus is just myself.

  • The last and most important detail was the Select and Mask tool we learned this week.  This makes me less cut out of the background and a bit more naturally set.

Patching

I wanted to take on the task of patching this week.  What I decided on was using my dog Lily in her little adventure in the mountain stream but get rid of her black leash that is in the way.

  • I first enhanced the photo in camera making it crisp.

  • Then took it into photoshop, where I used the healing brush to get it as close to the background as possible.

  • Lastly, I used the Patch tool to fix up any weird and out of place areas that happened in the process.

USU Flyer

This isn't quite up my alley, but we were supposed to create a flyer about something relating to school.

  • I decided on a vertical flyer because I feel as though most flyers are made this way and if it were a billboard, it's the same way.

  •  Since registrations are on its way, I wanted to make something that corresponded with that.

  • I used the school colours to tie everything together.

Digital Display

For my digital display, we were told to choose something that went with Usu's Spring semester.  What better way than to start with the first day of class and of course, the big test days of the semester.

  • I wanted Usu to be the focus, so to start, I used a Pano of usu; all credit to the rightful owner of the photo.

  •  Next, I used what we learned this week and made it more of a sketch-like photo.

  • Lastly, I wanted the text to stand out a bit and not just on the plain white background.

  •  Using one of the first techniques our professor taught us, I made a clean strip of colour to nicely boarder the text

For this assignment, I just wanted to play around with styles a little bit.  I've made a gradient before to turn things into gold but the copper looked a lot better with this style.

  • The effects I used were a bevel and emboss

  • Gradient and pattern overlay.

  • Finally, a drop shadow just to pop it out of the page a bit.

I wouldn't recommend using it on actual words.  This would be more for a design rather than anything else.  The words would get too hard to read in the end.
